PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City and Banglamung district authorities have deployed joint security teams across major tourist areas to strengthen safety during the visit of more than 5,000 US Navy personnel to the city.

Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet joined a security mobilization ceremony at the Central Pattaya Beach intersection on Sept 2, chaired by Banglamung District Chief Anusak Piriya-amorn. The ceremony was attended by Pattaya police, tourist police, immigration officers, military personnel, district officials, Pattaya City staff and volunteers.

The operation follows the arrival in Chonburi of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and two accompanying US Navy vessels for a port visit from Sept 2-6. More than 5,000 US personnel are expected to visit Pattaya, with many staying overnight during their shore leave. Banglamung district and Pattaya City have combined forces with military police, Pattaya Police Station, Immigration Police, Tourist Police, district officials, civil defense volunteers and other personnel for the operation.

The security teams have been divided into five groups to patrol five key tourist locations: Soi 6 near Pattaya Beach, Royal Garden Plaza, Walking Street, Soi Buakhao and the Dongtan Curve patrol area.

Officials said the patrols are intended to deter crime, respond quickly to incidents and maintain safety for both US personnel and other visitors throughout the port visit.

Authorities are also urging businesses, residents and visitors to help maintain Pattaya’s reputation as a welcoming and safe tourist destination. The heightened security operation will continue throughout the USS Abraham Lincoln’s visit from Sept 2-6.

Tourists passing by stop to chat with Mayor Poramet, exchanging greetings and sharing their excitement over the arrival of the US Navy warships.

Five security teams are deployed across Soi 6, Royal Garden Plaza, Walking Street, Soi Buakhao and the Dongtan Curve area.

A main security team is stationed along Hard Rock Hotel Beach Road to monitor the area and help ensure safety during the US Navy port visit.

Pattaya officials are working across the city to ensure US sailors enjoy a safe, smooth and pleasant stay during their time in the area.
