PATTAYA, Thailand – Heavy rainfall early Thursday morning caused temporary flooding in several areas of Pattaya and Banglamung, disrupting residents returning home after overnight work and those heading out for their morning shifts. At around 5 a.m. on July 23, local reports said heavy rain had fallen continuously for more than an hour across Banglamung district, causing large amounts of water to accumulate in several low-lying areas.
Flooding levels were reported at around 10 to 70 centimeters in some locations, particularly areas that regularly experience drainage problems during heavy rainfall. One of the worst affected areas was the railway-side road near Soi Khao Talo, heading toward Soi Khao Noi and Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya. Water levels rose high enough that motorcycles and small vehicles were unable to pass through, while several cars were left stranded after attempting to drive through the flooded section.
The flooding heavily disrupted commuters, including people returning home after late-night work and workers traveling out for their morning shifts. Many motorists were forced to slow down, find alternative routes, or wait for water levels to drop. After the rain stopped, the floodwater gradually receded, and within about an hour, water levels had returned to normal. Roads reopened, and residents and motorists were able to travel through the affected areas as usual. The incident highlights ongoing drainage challenges in some parts of Pattaya, where intense rainfall can quickly cause temporary flooding in low-lying areas.
