PATTAYA, Thailand – Progress on key infrastructure projects in Pattaya came under review during a recent city council session, with officials confirming that major sidewalk upgrades and water supply expansion plans are moving forward, though some challenges remain.
During the meeting held on March 26, Banjong Banthunprayuk, a Pattaya City Council Member for District 3, raised questions to the mayor regarding two major projects: the improvement of sidewalks along Pattaya Second Road and Pattaya Third Road, and the expansion of the city’s water supply network.
Responding on behalf of the administration, Manot Nongyai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, explained that the sidewalk improvement project is being carried out in parallel with the Provincial Electricity Authority’s underground cable installation. The existing sidewalks, he noted, have deteriorated after more than 15 years of use.
Overall progress on the sidewalk upgrades has reached approximately 70%, covering key stretches from the Central Pattaya intersection (Nipa Junction) to Krung Thai Bank in South Pattaya. The project remains on track for completion by May 2026.
However, several obstacles persist. These include delays in the removal of old utility poles, which must be handled by relevant agencies before surface works and lighting installation can proceed. Additional issues involve encroachments on public walkways and the need to regulate vendors along Pattaya Third Road who continue to obstruct pedestrian access.
On Pattaya Second Road, sidewalks have been widened by approximately 70 centimeters, increasing from an average of 80 centimeters to around 1.5 meters. The expansion utilizes space along the former utility pole line and does not affect traffic lanes. Progress on this section is also at around 70%, with completion expected within the same May 2026 timeline.
Regarding water supply expansion, Manoch stated that all projects planned between 2023 and 2025 have been completed. For 2026, three remaining routes are still under development. Once completed and handed over to the Provincial Waterworks Authority, residents will be able to apply for water meter installation immediately.
Looking ahead, Pattaya has outlined further expansion plans covering 31 additional routes between 2027 and 2028, prioritizing areas with the highest demand and complaints raised through city council members.
Overall, city officials reaffirmed that the 2026 infrastructure projects remain on schedule, with sidewalk improvements nearing completion and water supply expansion entering its final phase—efforts aimed at continuously improving quality of life for Pattaya residents.
