PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya and surrounding coastal areas are being urged to remain cautious as the northeast monsoon strengthens, bringing rough seas in the Gulf of Thailand while cooler air spreads across much of the country, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

While Pattaya itself is not among the provinces facing the heaviest rainfall, weather officials warn that strong winds and elevated wave conditions are affecting coastal waters in the eastern region. Sea conditions are expected to worsen over the coming days, with waves reaching 1–2 meters offshore, and higher in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

Authorities have advised small boats to exercise extreme caution, particularly in the lower Gulf of Thailand, where vessels are recommended to remain ashore between Dec 14–16 due to hazardous marine conditions.

Meanwhile, upper Thailand is experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures as a new cold air mass from China spreads southward. Although Pattaya will not see the sharp temperature decline reported in the Northeast, residents and visitors can expect slightly cooler mornings accompanied by occasional light rain.

The Meteorological Department also noted that dust and haze levels in the eastern region, including Pattaya, remain low to moderate, helped by intermittent rainfall.

Tourism operators, beach vendors, and marine businesses in Pattaya are advised to monitor weather updates closely, particularly those involved in boat tours and water activities. Visitors are encouraged to follow safety instructions from local authorities and lifeguards during periods of strong winds and rough seas.

Officials emphasized that weather conditions may change rapidly during this period and urged the public to stay informed through official forecasts and announcements.
