Pattaya municipal officers inspect a large mound of sand dug from the beach, with materials left behind and no one found responsible.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya municipal officers inspected the beach after discovering a large mound of sand that had been dug up and left along the shoreline, together with construction materials abandoned at the site, August 16. No one responsible for the work was found when officers arrived, and authorities have yet to determine who carried out the digging or why.

The city warned that Pattaya Beach is public space and that digging or altering the beach and leaving the area unattended can create hazards for residents and tourists, particularly at night when uneven sand and abandoned materials may be difficult to see. City officials urged whoever carried out the work to return the beach to a safe condition rather than leaving the problem for others to deal with. Residents and visitors who spot similar problems on public property can report them to the Pattaya City Call Centre at 1337.

The unexplained excavation creates a potential nighttime hazard for beachgoers, prompting the city to urge anyone with information to contact 1337.
