Over 600,000 students apply as Thailand confirms school places for all in 2026 intake

Picheth Phothipakdee, Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), speaks on the nationwide secondary school admissions process for the 2026 academic year, confirming that every student will be guaranteed a school placement.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has confirmed strong demand for secondary school admissions in the 2026 academic year, with more than 600,000 students applying for entry into Grade 7 (Mathayom 1) and Grade 10 (Mathayom 4).

According to OBEC Secretary-General Picheth Phothipakdee, applications have reached 388,239 for Grade 7 out of an available 427,024 seats, while Grade 10 has recorded 219,278 applicants for 402,690 total placements.

Entrance examinations are scheduled for March 28 for Grade 7 and March 29 for Grade 10, with student enrollment and confirmation of places set for early April.

Authorities emphasized that the selection process will be conducted under the Ministry of Education’s “Learn Well, Be Good” policy, focusing on transparency, fairness, and equal access to education nationwide.


Officials also reassured parents that every student will be allocated a school place. In cases where applicants are not admitted to their preferred institutions, regional education service centers will help coordinate placements to ensure no child is left without access to schooling.

OBEC stressed that the system is designed to distribute educational opportunities evenly across the country and maintain full enrollment coverage for all students.
