Local officials led a neighborhood cleanup in the Nongprue Market area, taking aim at disease-carrying mosquitos.

Sub-district Deputy Mayor Niyom Thiangtham kicked off the event on Chaiyapornwitee Road June 1, which focused on cleaning yards to be attractive and unfriendly to mosquitos, removing garbage where the insects can nest, and managing water sources and keeping areas dry to prevent mosquito breeding.

Dengue Fever is the main worry from mosquitos, although the mosquito-borne Zika virus is also a growing concern. Children are a prime victim group of dengue.

Health workers advised residents and demonstrated how to carry out mosquito abatement. The officials walked through the area handing out pamphlets on both the diseases and prevention.
