Pattaya will install additional water pumps in five flood-prone areas to prepare for rainy season.
Pumps will be put in around Sukhumvit Soi 33 where it connects to Soi Nongyai to capture water and drain it into the Suapaw canal.

Mayor Anan Charoenchasri gathers his brain trust to map out plans to mitigate flooding in Pattaya during the rainy season.

Soi 6/1 at Beach Road and Third Road near Mum Aroi restaurant, two chronically flooded intersections, will also get new pumps, along with Beach Road at Walking Street. That area also will have pipe laid to drain water into the city’s water-collection pond.

Finally, another pump will be put in on Soi Thepprasit 7 at Soi Chularach to quickly drain water that floods onto Sukhumvit Road opposite Tesco-Lotus.

Mayor Anan Charoenchasri reminded city workers that, despite the new pumps, they shouldn’t wait for orders from their superiors to respond to flooding. They should take their own initiative to respond to any flooding they see or is reported, the mayor said. (PPRD)
