A Pattaya motorcycle taxi driver was arrested for scooping up a mobile phone dropped by a Russian tourist.
Niyom Sukcharoen, 64, was taken into custody Dec. 19 and charged with theft at night for nicking the Xiaomi-brand smartphone he found on Soi Kasetsin 7.
Mikhail Sizov, 29, reported to police that he dropped the phone in front of a restaurant. Witnesses told police Niyom stopped his bike, picked up the phone and drove away.
However, Niyom admitted that someone called the phone and he intentionally didn’t answer it, then hid the phone at his house.
