PATTAYA, Thailand – A 41-year-old man from Rayong, identified as Kamthorn Phattawattankul, died in a self-inflicted smoke incident inside his SUV at a petrol station on Highway 36, heading toward Pattaya, on the evening of September 20.

According to police, the white Mitsubishi Pajero was parked outside the station’s restroom with the engine running and doors locked. Employees noticed the vehicle had been stationary for hours and alerted authorities after spotting the man lying inside. A charcoal brazier was found at the back of the car, which had been used to create smoke that ultimately led to his death.

CCTV footage showed Kamthorn entering the petrol station at 4:28 p.m. without leaving his vehicle. Prior to the incident, he reportedly contacted relatives to say he intended to take his life, though he did not provide his location. Authorities continue to investigate motives and will interview family members for further information.
