A distraught man who thought he wanted to commit suicide had to be rescued after deciding he did want to jump from a Sukhumvit Road pedestrian bridge after all.

Police and Sawang Boriboon rescuers tied a rope around Sirisak Chanduaykij, 21, and pulled him to safety Aug. 5 on the decorative bridge near Pattaya School No. 7. Threatening to jump, he’d dropped down to a support rail then couldn’t return to the platform without help.

Sirisak was upset after a fight with his girlfriend, who didn’t come to see his likely non-fatal plunge from the five-meter overpass. But the excitement did a number on his mother, Nittaya Sriwamna, 40, who required her own medical treatment after fainting.

Nittaya promised to pay closer attention to her lovelorn son from now on.
