PHUKET, Thailand – Police in Patong are searching for a foreign tourist accused of refusing to pay for jet ski damage before allegedly assaulting a beach operator following a dispute at Patong Beach.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 7 when a foreign tourist rented a jet ski and later collided with another jet ski, causing damage. When the operator requested compensation, the tourist allegedly refused to take responsibility and walked away from the area. The jet ski attendant, identified as Nattawut Det-iam, said he attempted to discuss the matter peacefully and showed evidence of the damage, but the tourist allegedly refused to negotiate and left the beach area toward Bangla Road.
Nattawut said he followed to ask why the tourist would not accept responsibility, leading to a heated argument. During the confrontation, the tourist allegedly grabbed him, threw him to the ground, and assaulted him before fleeing toward Jungceylon shopping mall.
The victim was later examined by doctors and was found to have multiple injuries, including bruising, facial swelling, and a fractured cheekbone. He said he did not fight back because he wanted the matter handled through the legal process.
The victim filed a complaint at Patong Police Station, telling officers that the tourist had arrived with two family members and rented two jet skis before the accident occurred. Patong Police Chief Pol. Col. Kornkrit Khankrue said investigators have been ordered to review CCTV footage and collect evidence to locate the suspect and proceed with legal action. The injured operator is seeking compensation for both the jet ski damage and injuries caused by the alleged assault, urging authorities to enforce the law to protect tourism workers and maintain confidence among local businesses.
