Mystery at Phuket café as one tourist dies and three others collapse suddenly in Phuket, prompting urgent investigation

PHUKET, Thailand – A foreign tourist died and three others were hospitalized after a group of Indian nationals suddenly collapsed at a café in the Kamala Beach area of Phuket during the early hours of May 9, prompting an ongoing investigation into the cause.

Police from Kamala Police Station were alerted at around 2:06 a.m. after emergency services reported that multiple foreign visitors had lost consciousness inside a popular café in Kamala sub-district, Kathu district. Rescue teams rushed four unconscious individuals to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.


According to initial reports, the group had been visiting the café late at night when they suddenly began collapsing one after another shortly after 1:50 a.m. Staff immediately called emergency services, who transported the victims to hospitals in Patong and Thalang.

One of the tourists later died at Vachira Phuket Hospital after being transferred in a critical condition, while the remaining individuals are reported to be in stable condition. One member of the group did not exhibit any symptoms.


Authorities confirmed that the victims were part of a five-person group who had been at the venue since around 11:00 p.m. the previous night. Police have since begun reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing staff to determine what caused the sudden medical emergencies.

The case has been escalated for further investigation, with authorities coordinating with relevant embassies and arranging a full autopsy to establish the cause of death.
