HUA HIN, Thailand – Hua Hin Municipality is preparing to demolish buildings encroaching on the beach between Hua Hin Fishing Pier and the Thap Thim Shrine, with work scheduled to begin on September 25 following a final court ruling. The demolition is expected to reopen public space along the beachfront and give residents and visitors greater access to the coastline.
The affected stretch, between the fishing pier and the shrine, has historically been home to local Hua Hin families, many of whom settled in the area generations ago after moving from Phetchaburi and making their livelihoods through fishing. Over the years, many of the original residents have relocated to other parts of Hua Hin, while buildings along the beachfront have increasingly been used for bars, restaurants and other businesses.
Hua Hin Municipality has been moving to reorganize the area in accordance with the final rulings of the Administrative Court. The buildings identified for removal were constructed on land considered public property. The clearance is expected to open up the beachfront and improve views of the sea, while creating a more orderly public space for residents and tourists. The move could also give Hua Hin a more prominent beachfront attraction, with the cleared area offering greater visibility of the coastline and potentially supporting tourism activity in the surrounding area. Local authorities will also need to manage traffic and access in the area once the demolition work is completed.
The municipality is required to implement the final Administrative Court ruling, with those responsible for buildings encroaching on the designated area required to comply with the court’s decision. The beachfront is public land and is intended to be accessible for shared public use.
