Phi Ta Khon Festival is expected to attract 100,000 visitors and generate 188 million baht for Loei.

LOEI, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has presided over the opening ceremony of the 2026 Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival at the main stage in front of Dan Sai District Office in Loei province. The Prime Minister stated that traditional customs and culture cannot be easily recreated or imitated because they reflect each country’s identity and are built on local beliefs, faith, wisdom, and ways of life.

The Prime Minister emphasized that traditional heritage and local cultures are distinct national assets built on generations of faith, wisdom, and community history. He emphasized that the Phi Ta Khon masked festival is more than a colorful procession. It is a profound cultural asset that gains value as global travelers increasingly seek authentic, unique experiences. The festival remains a major attraction for domestic and international tourists. It shows how soft power can generate employment, stimulate regional economic growth, and create economic opportunities for local residents. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported that accommodations in Dan Sai and Phu Ruea districts are nearly fully booked. Projections indicate at least 100,000 visitors over the three-day festival and economic circulation of at least 188 million baht for the community. (NNT)
