PATTAYA, Thailand – Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong led an inspection visit to a key Songkran safety checkpoint in Pattaya on April 14, reinforcing strict road safety measures during the holiday period.
The governor visited the checkpoint in front of Big C South Pattaya along Sukhumvit Road in Banglamung, where officials briefed him on ongoing safety operations.
Local authorities, police, medical teams, and rescue volunteers were stationed at the site to facilitate traffic flow, assist travelers, and reduce accidents during the busy Songkran travel period.
Officials confirmed that the checkpoint has been operating from April 10–16 as part of expanded safety coverage across key tourist and transport routes. Authorities also highlighted coordination efforts across land and water transport hubs, including routes to nearby islands.
The governor noted that recent accident statistics in the area remain concerning, with multiple crashes recorded in the past few days, resulting in fatalities and injuries. He stressed the importance of continued enforcement and public cooperation.
Authorities reiterated the campaign message urging motorists to avoid drinking and driving and to refrain from driving while fatigued, calling for careful planning, vehicle checks, and strict adherence to traffic rules to reduce risks during the festival.
