PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast warning of widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain across 42 provinces tomorrow, with Pattaya and the eastern region expected to face a 60% chance of rainfall amid strengthening southwest monsoon conditions.
According to the forecast issued on June 26, unstable weather conditions will continue across Thailand due to a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam. Residents are advised to remain cautious of heavy rain, accumulated rainfall, and possible flash flooding in some areas.
In the eastern region, including Chonburi and Pattaya, thunderstorms are expected over around 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in some locations. Temperatures are forecast between 24–26°C at night and 33–37°C during the day, while southwest winds of 15–35 km/h may create choppy sea conditions along the coast.
Sea conditions in the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be moderate, with waves around 1–2 metres high and higher waves exceeding 2 meters during thunderstorms. Authorities have advised small boats to exercise caution and avoid sailing in storm-affected areas due to potentially hazardous sea conditions. The Meteorological Department also noted that between 28 June and 3 July, rainfall across Thailand is expected to intensify, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, particularly in the eastern and western southern regions. Stronger monsoon winds during this period may also lead to rougher seas and higher wave activity.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm “Mekkhala” in the Pacific Ocean is currently tracking toward southern Japan and is not expected to enter Thailand or directly affect weather conditions in the country.
Residents in Pattaya and surrounding coastal areas are urged to stay alert to rapidly changing weather conditions, especially during afternoon and evening periods when thunderstorms are most likely to develop.
