PATTAYA, Thailand – A foreign pedestrian was killed after being struck by a high-powered motorcycle on Jomtien Second Road late Saturday night (March 21), prompting an investigation by Pattaya City Police.
Police said the accident occurred around 9:40 p.m. near the Rompho Market area. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation and medical staff from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya rushed to the scene after reports that a motorcycle had struck a pedestrian.
At the scene, rescuers found two seriously injured foreign men lying on the road while a crowd of residents and tourists gathered nearby.
One of the victims, a 55-year-old Finnish national who had been crossing the road, was found without a pulse. Rescue workers attempted CPR before rushing him to hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The second injured person, believed to be the rider of the motorcycle, was described as a foreign male aged around 30–40. He was found without identification and was transported in critical condition to Pattaya City Hospital for urgent treatment.
About 300 meters from the collision point, police discovered a heavily damaged Kawasaki Z800 big bike overturned in the road after apparently skidding and crashing into a parked car, which was also damaged.
A 71-year-old witness, Winai Rungjamjang, told police he heard the motorcycle approaching at high speed moments before the crash. “I heard a loud engine noise and then a sudden bang,” he said. When he looked toward the road, he saw the bike had lost control and slid into vehicles parked along the roadside, while the rider was thrown onto the street.
Another witness, a Finnish man speaking through an interpreter, told officers that the deceased was his friend. He said the victim had been crossing the road when the speeding motorcycle struck him.
Police documented the scene and are reviewing nearby CCTV footage while interviewing witnesses to determine the exact cause of the accident.
