Early morning car crash kills Russian couple in Pattaya

Rescue workers used heavy lifesaving equipment to pry open the wreckage to retrieve the bodies of the young Russian couple who died in the car crash.

A young Russian couple were killed when their car lost control and crashed on Sukhumvit Highway in the early hours of June 11. There were no eyewitnesses present at the scene of the accident near Soi Nongkrabok (87), only skid marks on the road indicated that the car lost control before colliding with the palm tree on the center island.



Police reported that the driver of the ill-fated Toyota Corolla Altis, Miss Valeriia Khimich, 18, and her passenger Mr. Gleb Solovev, 23, were severely injured after she drove her car into the center island of the highway and crashed into a palm tree, splitting it in half. The vehicle suffered extensive damage, with scattered parts strewn across the area. Tragically they both died during the rescue operations. Rescue teams used special equipment to pry open the wreckage and remove their bodies.



The police investigation team will review the CCTV footage in the area to gather more information about the accident. The bodies of the deceased victims will be held until their relatives arrive to claim them for religious rituals and repatriation.
