PATTAYA, Thailand – Police in Sattahip arrested a heavily intoxicated man on Saturday night (Dec 20), after he assaulted a market vendor and crashed his motorcycle into four vehicles while attempting to flee through a crowded night market.
The incident was reported at around 9:00 p.m., when Sattahip Police received an emergency call about a man causing a disturbance and ramming vehicles inside a well-known market in the Sattahip area. Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the situation.
Upon arrival, police found the suspect, later identified as a 40-year-old man from Samut Sakhon province, in a highly intoxicated and aggressive state. Witnesses said the man had attacked a vendor inside the market before attempting to escape on his motorcycle.
During his escape, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into four parked vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, causing damage and triggering panic among shoppers, vendors, and tourists in the area.
Preliminary questioning revealed that the suspect had come to the market to reconcile with his girlfriend. When the attempt failed, he became angry, argued with nearby vendors, and physically assaulted one of them before fleeing at high speed, leading to the crash.
Police took the suspect into custody and transferred him to Sattahip Police Station for further investigation. Legal action will be pursued under relevant charges related to assault, drunk driving, reckless driving, and property damage.
Authorities stressed that alcohol-fuelled violence and reckless behaviour in public places will not be tolerated, especially in busy community areas.
