City sanitation teams scrub powder-stained elevators after Wan Lai celebrations left a mess across Pattaya.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Following the festive chaos of Wan Lai in Pattaya, the Cleanliness Control Division of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has begun deep-cleaning elevators in public areas that were affected by powder and water.

Despite efforts to maintain accessibility, some elevators remained out of order due to water damage, sparking complaints from citizens—particularly those requiring wheelchair access. One resident reported that her friend in a wheelchair couldn’t cross the road because the elevator was out of service, forcing her partner to carry her.

Officials explained that the malfunction was caused by water infiltrating the elevator system, but repairs are now underway. Several elevators around the city still require cleaning and maintenance.

Public frustration rises as water-damaged elevators remain inoperable days after the festival.

Residents express concern for people with disabilities as lift outages hinder accessibility during peak holiday travel.

Officials confirm water entered the elevator system; repairs and cleaning are underway across multiple affected sites.
