BANGKOK, Thailand – Police arrested a 30-year-old Chinese man and a Thai woman after allegedly finding more than 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine, drug-use equipment and other items during a raid on a hotel room in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district. Sutthisan police investigators raided a sixth-floor room at a hotel in the Inthamara area on the afternoon of August 21 following a tip that foreigners were allegedly gathering at the hotel to use drugs.
Police said officers spotted the Chinese suspect, identified as “Mr. Lin,” 30, acting suspiciously in the hotel lobby. After identifying themselves and presenting their Office of the Narcotics Control Board credentials, officers, through an interpreter, asked to search him. Lin reportedly agreed to take officers to his room, where they found a 27-year-old Thai woman identified as “Ms. Fah.”
The search allegedly uncovered multiple packets and plastic tubes containing crystal methamphetamine, with a combined weight of more than 40 grams. Police also reported finding drug-use equipment, a digital scale and clear plastic bags believed to have been prepared for dividing the drugs.
Police said a check of Lin’s passport found no valid documentation authorizing his stay in Thailand and that he was allegedly residing in the country illegally. Both suspects were subsequently given urine tests, which reportedly returned positive for methamphetamine. Police charged both suspects with jointly possessing a Category 1 narcotic, crystal methamphetamine, without authorization and with drug use. Lin also faces an additional charge of illegally entering and remaining in Thailand without permission. The two suspects and the seized items were handed over to investigators at Sutthisan Police Station for further legal proceedings.
