Two tourists caught urinating on Pattaya Beach in public, arrested for indecent behavior as calls grow louder for more public toilets.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya Beach has recently faced public outrage following incidents of tourists urinating in the sea. Two foreign visitors were arrested after being filmed urinating on the beach and making obscene gestures towards locals, igniting debates about public decency and the city’s infrastructure.

While such behavior is undeniably inappropriate, many locals and visitors have pointed out a practical concern: the lack of adequate public restroom facilities. One commenter asked, “Perhaps Pattaya authorities can explain where the public toilets are for beachgoers. Beach showers too—the high-class tourists they are trying to attract will not want to dress whilst covered in sea salt.” Another added, “It’s night time in the water, relax,” while others noted, “Thais do it all the time everywhere,” and questioned simply, “Any public toilets around?”

Reports earlier this year highlighted that both locals and tourists often struggle to find accessible and clean public restrooms in key areas of Pattaya, including the beachside. In response, Pattaya City has introduced free, air-conditioned mobile toilets along Beach Road, with units located near Walking Street and Central Pattaya. These facilities operate daily from 8:00 AM to midnight, aiming to provide comfort and convenience to beachgoers.

However, the current number of mobile units remains insufficient to meet the needs of the thousands of daily visitors. Expanding the availability of public restrooms—especially in high-traffic areas—is crucial to prevent public urination and enhance the overall tourist experience.
