PATTAYA, Thailand – A late-night drinking session turned violent in Pattaya early Saturday when a British tourist allegedly punched two fellow countrymen at a beer bar in the Jomtien area, leaving both injured. The incident was reported at around 12:36 a.m. on Aug. 29 at a beer bar near Rom Pho Jomtien Market on Jomtien Second Road. Sawang Boriboon rescue workers and Pattaya City Police were called to the scene after receiving reports of a fight with injuries.
A crowd of tourists had gathered around the scene when rescuers arrived. Two British men were found injured. One suffered a head wound, a split lip and a suspected broken right leg, while the other had severe bruising around his left eye. Rescue workers provided first aid before taking both men to hospital for further treatment.
Police also found the alleged attacker still at the scene, walking around the bar, and took him into custody for questioning. Witnesses told authorities that three people had been drinking together when the alleged attacker, who was alone, approached and joined the injured man for drinks and conversation. The two men appeared to know each other and may have previously spoken because they were from the same country.
The situation reportedly escalated when the alleged attacker suddenly punched the first man. His friends then intervened, but one of them was also injured during the confrontation. The alleged attacker reportedly claimed he became angry after being subjected to insulting or sarcastic remarks, leading to the confrontation. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and plan to review CCTV footage from the area to establish what happened and determine the circumstances leading to the fight. The suspect remains in police custody while the investigation proceeds.
