PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department says rainfall is expected to decrease over the next 24 hours as the southwest monsoon weakens over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. However, authorities continue to warn that 33 provinces remain at risk of thunderstorms, with Bangkok still expected to see afternoon-to-evening showers. According to the forecast issued on June 22, the weakening monsoon is reducing overall rainfall intensity across the country. Despite this, scattered thunderstorms remain possible, and the public is advised to remain cautious of sudden weather changes, particularly during outdoor activities. In Bangkok and surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in around 30 percent of the region, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures are forecast to range between 27–38 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds of 10–20 kilometers per hour.
Across the country, similar conditions persist. The northern region is expected to see thunderstorms over 30 percent of areas, particularly in provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, and Tak, while temperatures may reach up to 38 degrees Celsius. In the northeast, thunderstorms are forecast over 20 percent of the region, including areas such as Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, and Nong Khai, with hot daytime conditions continuing. The central region is also expected to experience scattered thunderstorms, while the eastern region, including Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, is forecast to see rainfall over 30 percent of the area.
In the south, both the eastern and western coasts are expected to receive scattered thunderstorms, particularly in provinces such as Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, and Satun. Sea conditions remain moderately active, with waves around one meter high and higher in thunderstorm areas.
Maritime authorities have urged caution for small boats operating in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, warning that wave heights may exceed two meters in storm-affected areas.
Meteorologists emphasized that although rainfall is decreasing overall, sudden thunderstorms can still develop quickly due to unstable weather conditions during the monsoon transition period.
Residents and tourists are advised to remain alert, especially during the afternoon and evening, when storm activity is most likely to occur.
