BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul hosted plenary talks with Myanmar President Gen. Min Aung Hlaing at Government House on August 6, with the two leaders discussing cooperation in security, trade, investment, energy, development, and cross-border issues. Thailand also reaffirmed its support for Myanmar’s participation in ASEAN and agreed to continue regular high-level exchanges. The leaders discussed border security, including efforts to combat transnational crime, narcotics trafficking, online scams, and money laundering. They also agreed to increase coordination between relevant agencies to improve security along the shared border.
Economic ties were another important topic, with both sides discussing cross-border trade, transportation links, investment, and the reopening of the Second Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge between Mae Sot and Myawaddy. The talks also covered labor, environmental cooperation, and development in agriculture, public health, education, and space technology. Following the meeting, both leaders witnessed the exchange of three cooperation documents covering labor, water quality management for boundary and transboundary rivers, and the peaceful use of Earth observation technology between Thailand’s GISTDA and the Myanmar Space Agency.
