PATTAYA, Thailand – Few stories are as heartbreaking as this. Following the shocking murders in Chonburi’s Huai Yai area, the mother of Russian siblings Diana and Roman shared a touching family video capturing happier times—smiles, laughter and an ordinary car ride that, without anyone knowing, would become one of the family’s final memories together. What has touched so many people is the outcome of the investigation, which indicates that, in his final moments, 17-year-old Roman tried to shield and protect his 22-year-old sister, Diana, during the attack.
His mother wrote that she had always known her son was kind and courageous, but now people around the world know it too. To her, Roman was a true hero—not because he possessed extraordinary powers, but because he had an extraordinary heart and loved his family more than his own life. The tragedy claimed the lives of Roman and Diana, whose bodies were later found buried in a plantation in Banglamung district. The case shocked both Thailand and the international community, prompting an intensive police investigation that led to the arrest of multiple suspects. It also renewed calls for justice and stronger action against violent crime.
As investigators continue building their case, Roman’s final act of courage has become a symbol of the unbreakable bond between brother and sister—a reminder that even in humanity’s darkest moments, love and selflessness can shine through. May Diana and Roman rest in peace, and may Roman’s bravery never be forgotten.
