PATTAYA, Thailand – An electric vehicle crashed into a CJ convenience store in Sattahip on Monday morning, injuring three people and causing significant damage to the shop, police said. At around 09:30 a.m. on June 22, the Sattahip Police Station was alerted to an incident in which a vehicle had driven into a CJ branch located near Wat Kanthamat, close to Sensiri Market in Sattahip, further south of Pattaya.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and found a blue MG electric car with Chonburi registration embedded inside the storefront, with severe damage to the front and interior of the shop. Three people were injured in the incident. A 61-year-old male coffee bar employee suffered a leg sprain and body bruises. A 68-year-old female staff member experienced nausea and vomiting after being struck. A 58-year-old female customer sustained a large wound to her left calf. All three were transported to Sattahip Hospital and Queen Sirikit Hospital for treatment.
The driver, identified as an 82-year-old man, told police he had driven from a nearby temple and stopped at the store to buy goods. He claimed he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park, causing the vehicle to surge forward into the shop. One injured staff member said he was preparing coffee when the car suddenly crashed into the counter area, leaving no time to react.
Another employee described hearing a loud bang before seeing the vehicle rush into the shop, causing panic among staff and customers inside. CCTV footage reportedly showed the vehicle entering the parking area before slowing down, then suddenly accelerating into the storefront where employees were working. Police have documented the scene and are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the accident, including whether mechanical or driver error factors were involved.
