Pattaya-area police arrested seven people and seized 76,000 methamphetamine tablets in a series of arrests aimed at breaking up a local drug-dealing network.

Weerayut Sripathanusorn, 27, Pantorn Teeratham, 25, and Piyawat Chimkul, 24, were brought to a news conference with Banglamung, Chonburi and Region 2 police Feb. 7. They were caught with 58,000 ya ba pills, two cars and a mobile phone.

Also brought to the briefing was Nopadol Prempraoh, 30, and Oranong Huabjoobjoo, 34, who were arrested in possession of 14,000 speed tablets, two vehicles and three phones.

Finally, Uraiwan Nakjai and Arunothai Waikrut, both 26, were brought before the media. They were caught with 4,000 pills, a motorbike and two mobile phones.

Deputy Region 2 commander Maj. Gen. Surapol Wiratyosin said the arrests came from information supplied by detained drug users who pointed to three sources for their drugs.

Weerayut’s group was arrested first and led to the other two arrests. The main supplier for all three is still being track down, police said.
