2 hurt when drunk Russian smashes into pickup

Two people suffered minor injuries when a drunk Russian slammed his Honda Civic into the back of a pickup truck in Pattaya.

Property broker Sergii Karvatskyi, 32, was very obviously intoxicated but only slightly hurt in the May 23 crash near the Elephant Camp in Najomtien Sub-district. Pongthep Onrod, 42, also escaped major injury when his Mazda pickup was bounced into the center median.

Pongthep said he was stopped to make a U-turn when the Russian hit him at high speed.
Condominium security guard Phipat Wongjit, 38, told police he and Karvatskyi had been drinking heavily earlier. When the Russian wanted to leave, Phipat questioned his decision to drive, but Karvatskyi insisted. So the security guard said he followed him only to witness the collision.
