Walking Street turns into a splash zone! Songkran fever hits Pattaya early.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya’s world-famous Walking Street has come alive with the splash and roar of early Songkran celebrations, as tourists and locals alike have packed the vibrant nightlife strip since April 13. With water guns in hand and smiles on their faces, thousands have descended on the area, turning it into a full-blown water war zone—days ahead of the official “Wan Lai” or water days on April 18-19.

The early start of festivities has been met with enthusiasm, especially from international tourists eager to experience Thailand’s most iconic festival. Walking Street, usually known for its nightlife, has been drenched from morning to night, with music, dancing, and buckets of water flying in every direction. Neon lights shimmer off wet pavement, and vendors selling waterproof phone pouches, goggles, and colorful water guns are doing brisk business.

Despite concerns about road safety across the country, the atmosphere in Walking Street has remained festive, with police and volunteers maintaining order and ensuring revelers stay within designated zones. Street performers, live DJs, and foam machines have added to the carnival-like vibe, drawing in visitors from all over the world.

But the real peak is still to come. All eyes are now on April 18-19, when Pattaya celebrates Wan Lai—its own extended version of Songkran—which is traditionally the biggest and most vibrant water party in the region. City officials expect even larger crowds, especially along the beachfront and central Pattaya areas.

For now, the water is flowing, spirits are high, and Walking Street has once again proven why it’s one of Thailand’s top Songkran hotspots. As one drenched but happy tourist shouted over the noise, “This is madness—and I love it!”

From dusk till drenched — Pattaya’s party kicks off ahead of Wan Lai.

Buckets, beats, and pure chaos — Songkran madness floods Pattaya’s streets.
