PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya could be in for a few soggy days between July 11–13, as Thailand’s Meteorological Department warns of increased rainfall across much of the country due to a strengthening monsoon system and a low-pressure cell moving across northern Vietnam.

While the heaviest downpours are expected in six high-risk provinces—Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chanthaburi, and Trat—residents and visitors in Pattaya should also prepare for periods of heavy rain and possible localized flooding. Eastern Thailand, including the coastal Chonburi region, is expected to be affected as the southwest monsoon continues to sweep across the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and inland provinces.

The Department notes that heavy rainfall may result in flash floods or runoff, especially in foothill and low-lying areas. Maritime conditions are also expected to deteriorate. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea may reach 2 meters, with even higher swells in thunderstorm zones. The upper Gulf of Thailand, which includes waters near Pattaya, could see waves of 1–2 meters. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in storm-prone areas.

This latest weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing over upper Myanmar, northern Thailand, northeastern provinces, and northern Vietnam, where a low-pressure system is currently stationed. The system is expected to move along the monsoon path, intensifying rain activity through July 13.

While Pattaya is not among the six provinces under direct flood threat, weather-sensitive activities and travel should be planned carefully, especially along roads prone to waterlogging and beachfront areas where drainage may be slower.
