CEO Pattra Boosarawongse announces flight cuts and temporary route suspensions as soaring fuel costs force the airline to scale back operations in key international markets.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Thai AirAsia X has announced a reduction in flight frequencies on its Japan routes and the temporary suspension of services to Shanghai and Riyadh, citing rising jet fuel costs and global operational pressures.

The airline confirmed it will scale back flights from Don Mueang International Airport to key Japanese destinations including Tokyo and Osaka, along with adjustments to routes serving Almaty and Delhi.

In addition, the airline has suspended its Shanghai route from April 17 onward, while flights to Riyadh will be halted from April 14 through June 30, 2026.

According to CEO Pattra Boosarawongse, the adjustments are necessary during the second quarter due to sustained increases in aviation fuel prices and operational challenges affecting long-haul routes, particularly those linked to the Middle East.

The airline apologized for the disruption, especially to passengers traveling to Japan—one of the most popular destinations for Thai travelers—stating it is working to maintain sufficient capacity during peak holiday periods.

Affected passengers will be offered alternative travel options, and the airline indicated it is ready to restore frequencies once conditions improve and demand rebounds.
