Darryl Reeves in his presentation to the PCEC on AI’s practical uses, describes some of the ways one can use AI to have fun.

PATTAYA, Thailand – On September 17, 2025, Darryl Reeves delivered an insightful presentation to the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) on the practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life.  His talk was followed by two representatives from Allianz Insurance.

Darryl began by emphasizing the pervasive influence of AI, noting that most people use AI consciously or unconsciously in their daily routines. He compared the current AI revolution to past technological shifts, such as the introduction of cars and computers, which initially caused job fears but eventually led to new opportunities. Darryl stressed the importance of embracing change and adapting to AI, citing the smartphone as an example of transformative technology that many rely on today.

One of the key points of Darryl’s presentation was the practical benefits of AI for individuals, especially expats. He outlined several areas where AI can significantly improve quality of life. AI can offer guidance on health issues, suggest possible causes for symptoms, and provide directions for further action. It can track vital signs through wearables like smartwatches, alert caregivers in emergencies, and remind users to take medications or vitamins.

Further, AI facilitates staying in touch with loved ones through voice commands, video calls, messaging, and email. It can open applications and send messages on behalf of the user, making communication easier and more accessible. It can also be used as a Personal Assistant, but unlike an employed individual, AI is available 24/7, helping with reminders, calendar management, task organization, and shopping lists. It can adapt to user preferences, remember choices, and provide alerts for other interests. AI can also offer entertainment and creativity. It can suggest new music, tell jokes and trivia, and create images for personal use, such as custom invitations featuring themed artwork.

Darryl also provided practical advice for beginners on getting started with AI. He recommended downloading the Google Gemini app from the Play Store or Apple App Store as a simple and user-friendly AI tool. The app supports voice commands, conversational interaction, and integrates well with Google apps.

During the presentation, Darryl demonstrated Google Gemini’s capabilities in real time, showcasing its ability to check the weather, find cheap airfare, provide detailed information about insurance policies, and manage calendar appointments and shopping lists. The talk concluded with a discussion on the future of AI and its infrastructure.

Following Darryl’s talk, Sirilak Sirisawat and Tipanan Salter, representatives from Allianz Insurance, delivered an informative presentation about Allianz’s health and life insurance offerings tailored specifically for expatriates in Thailand. The session provided a detailed overview of Allianz’s insurance plans, coverage options, and policies, addressing the unique needs of the expat community.

Allianz Insurance representatives, Sirilak Sirisawat and Tipanan Salter, introduce Alliznz’s health insurance plans for Expats to their PCEC audience.

They began their presentation by providing an overview of the Allianz Group noting Allianz was founded in Germany in 1890, operates in 70 countries and serves 100 million customers worldwide. Allianz offers health insurance coverage starting from age 1 up to 70 years old, with the option to continue coverage up to 90 years old if the insured already has a health insurance policy.

Popular health insurance packages range from 1 million to 120-million-baht coverage. They mentioned that their First-Class Package offers their highest coverage and requires a full health check. It also offers unlimited outpatient coverage, albeit at a higher premium. Coverage currently terminates at age 90. For travel, the insurance covers emergency medical treatment outside Thailand, but routine or planned treatments abroad depend on company approval. Repatriation or evacuation to another country for treatment is subject to circumstances and company decisions

The presentation concluded with a Q&A session, where the representatives addressed various queries from the audience, providing clarity on the benefits and limitations of Allianz’s expat health insurance plans.

MC Ren Lexander then brought everyone up to date on upcoming PCEC events followed by the Open Forum portion of the meeting where the audience can ask questions or make comments about Expat living in Thailand, especially Pattaya.
