PATTAYA, Thailand – The MyBar Golf Society enjoyed another competitive week of golf as members tackled two popular Eastern Thailand layouts under cloudy skies and comfortable conditions, producing strong scoring and several closely contested finishes.
Tuesday, May 5 – Greenwood Golf Club
Ten enthusiastic golfers gathered at MyBar early Tuesday morning for coffee before travelling to Greenwood Golf Club, where the society played the A and B loops in near-perfect golfing weather.
The outing also marked a special occasion, as Bob Edwards and Hidde Bijl played their final rounds before returning home, giving the day an added social atmosphere.
As usual, Greenwood presented itself in excellent condition, while overcast skies helped keep temperatures comfortable throughout the round. The group also managed to avoid the rain entirely, with showers arriving only after play had concluded.
Scoring was consistently strong, with many players finishing in the 30-point range. Neil Harvey delivered the best performance of the day, posting an excellent 38 Stableford points to secure victory.
Second place proved far tighter, with Allan Cassin and Bob Edwards both carding 36 points. Cassin ultimately claimed runner-up honours after edging Edwards on countback. Dave Smith endured an off day and reluctantly accepted the spoon. Near-pin honours were shared by Hidde Bijl and Dave Smith.
Back at MyBar after the round, members also celebrated the upcoming birthday of John Dean with fruit cake and several Baby Guinness shots, bringing a lively finish to the day.
Thursday, May 7 – Pleasant Valley Golf Club
A smaller but highly motivated group of five golfers travelled to Pleasant Valley on Thursday under another cloudy sky.
The course was reported to be in reasonable condition, and despite the reduced field size, competition remained intense throughout the round.
Dave Smith responded impressively after his disappointing performance earlier in the week, bouncing back strongly to take first place with 36 Stableford points. Ricc Batt secured runner-up position with 34 points after a steady round in testing conditions.
