Monday Jan. 20 – Wed. Jan. 22
Burapha Golf Course A and B

The 2020 PSC Club Championship took place on the excellent A and B nines of Burapha Golf Course.

76 signed up to play on the first day, including seven ladies; however three late withdrawals left 73 starters who were all on time to be registered and welcomed by the usual team of VP Tim, Nigel and Ing, with Golf Chairman Jack managing the start as usual.

On Monday, the first group was away ahead of the 9am tee time, only slipping a bit as the day progressed; on Weds, it all ran a little smoother with 79 players, starting about 6 minutes early and finishing exactly on time.

It was good to be back on this great course, particularly the A & B nines, always a great favourite. Over the last 10 years, Khao Kheow has been the most regular venue for the PSC Club Championships, with only a couple of visits to Burapha and one last year at Bangpra. Mike, the Burapha GM, gave us an excellent rate for the two days as well as granting us permission to walk the course, even though one or two caddies found it a bit difficult.

The course was in its usual pristine condition, which was well appreciated by many and together with excellent golfing weather, all was set for a great day out.

Tim and his team collected the cards at the end of the day and. ably assisted by Treasurer John Player’s computer skills, Tim set about producing the starting times for Wednesday until late in the evening, ready for the girls in the PSC office to prepare all the cards.

Congratulations to participants on Wednesday, who all arrived on time. For the stroke players, they were pushed back to the blue tees just to give them a little more of a challenge, particularly with their short game as it was not so easy to reach all the par 4s in two.

Jack Grindvold, playing off 5, was definitely the pre-tournament favourite, having won the previous two years; however, there were a couple of other low markers who had other ideas. In the end, Jack said he messed up one hole in particular which cost him his hat-trick, losing by one shot to Jan Andersson on 154. Peter Nixon took the Day 1 stroke win with 76 and Dave Stockman, who admitted he wasn’t all that keen to play from the longer blues on Day 2, surprised himself with a very fine 75.

Stableford Plate Winner – Reijo Heiskanen.

Reijo Heiskanen had an amazing overall Stableford score of 89 to take the trophy with Pierre Zbinden, the runner-up on a very respectable 84. Overall stroke (net) went to Richard Kubicki on 143 with Dave Smith taking 2nd on 144, on c/b from Tommy Wickman.

The newly appointed general manager at the Amari in Pattaya offered the PSC a great deal to host the presentation and they definitely did not disappoint, providing us with a first class service and a fine spread of food, including a lovely choice of tempting desserts.

After everyone had enjoyed refreshments it was time for the presentation and announcement of the results.

Nigel called order and welcomed all the introduced PSC President Peter Malhotra who expressed his appreciation for the support shown by PSC members to the benefit of many local charities.

Jack then took over to announce the results, keeping the staff on the run, distributing the many prizes to be awarded, as quickly as possible.

NOTE: The next PSC tournament will be a 2 person scramble at Parichat on Tuesday 18th Feb for a 9.30am shotgun start. Full details coming soon, sign up please at the PSC Office as usual.
