Flash floods and overflowing rivers hit 12 subdistricts across three districts, damaging nearly 500 homes as relief operations intensify.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Tropical Storm “Nong Fa” has brought severe flooding to Phetchabun province, with flash floods, river overflows, and landslides impacting three districts. Continuous rainfall and runoff from Loei province led to the Pa Sak and Phung Rivers overflowing, inundating areas in Lom Kao, Lom Sak, and Nam Nao.

Lom Kao district was the hardest hit, with flooding across eight subdistricts and 27 villages. A total of 491 homes were damaged, one school was flooded, and Highway 2216 was submerged. Nam Nao saw flooding in two subdistricts and nine villages. Lom Sak Municipality and nearby areas were also affected. In total, 12 subdistricts and 38 villages sustained damage, with 493 homes, two roads, and one bridge impacted. No injuries or deaths have been reported.

Emergency relief efforts are underway. Local agencies, including Subdistrict Administrative Organizations, Red Cross branches, and municipal bodies, have distributed relief kits, food, and drinking water. More than 60 personnel, rescue boats, and heavy equipment were deployed. The Royal Thai Army and provincial officials are clearing debris to improve drainage and reduce flood levels.

Governor Saranyu Meethongkham raised the alert level to red along the Pa Sak River and ordered residents in at-risk areas to move belongings to higher ground. Power shutdowns were prepared in flood-prone zones to prevent electrical hazards. The governor and local officials inspected the affected areas to oversee the response.

As of this morning (September 1), weather conditions have started to improve. The Pa Sak River was still overflowing into parts of Lom Sak’s commercial district, blocking traffic on several roads to and from the area.
