BANGKOK, 5 April 2012  – The Transport Ministry is prepared to offer more space for small entrepreneurs to sell their products in the Chatuchak Market.

Deputy Transport Minister Chatt Kuldilok said his ministry will offer an empty space in the 27th project of the Chatuchak Market to interested merchants. The area was formerly managed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

The management of the Chatuchak Weekend Market has shifted, since the beginning of this year, from the BMA’s jurisdiction to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) under the Transport Ministry.

Mr Chatt said around 20-30 additional stands will be allotted to small entrepreneurs. He expects high competition among bidders, with the prices going up to 100,000 baht for each stand. He said the SRT will be able to use the bidding money for further development of the Chatuchak Market.
