NARATHIWAT, Sept 11 — Narathiwat, one of Thailand’s three southernmost border provinces, plans to market outstanding local products in Malaysia’s Kelantan state.

The plan emerged after Malaysian business operators from Kelantan met producers at the Narathiwat provincial hall toda at the invitation of the provincial governor.

The Malaysian delegation is visiting Thailand to discuss trade and investment opportunities.

The delegation met Narathiwat Governor Natthapong Sirichana and discussed investment opportunities in Narathiwat and their intention to import Narathiwat products for sale in Kelantan.

Governor Natthapong invited makers and representatives of the outstanding local products to meet the Malaysian business delegation to acknowledge their interest and get a better idea of the market potential.

The Kelantan visitors plan mainly to import food and garments to serve the demand of Malaysian Muslims. Gov Natthapong recommended deep fried crackers (keropok in Malay), preserved durian, prayer rugs and velvet tamarind fruit.

Mr Natthapong said it was the first time for the Kelantan businesspeople to express their intention to import Thai products for sale in their state. They also invited Thai workers to visit Kelantan for vocational training, the governor said.
