BANGKOK, 14 October 2011  – The ongoing flood crisis has cost the Thai industry at least 190 billion THB and is expected to bring higher loss if the disaster persists.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries chairman for the central region Singh Tangcharoenchaichana, the loss involves mostly damage to flood-torn industrial parks in Ayutthaya Province.

In Ayutthaya, floods have already hit more than 500 manufacturers in the Rojana Industrial Park, the Bang Pa In Industrial Estate, the Hitech Industrial Estate, the Saharatananakorn Industrial Park. Each of them has to bear an initial loss of 30-50 billion THB.

In Nakhon Pathom, flooding has cost provincial economy 30 billion THB.

Although most factories in Pathum Thani are still unaffected due to prompt preparations, nearly half of their staff are unable to work as their houses have been under water.

The chairman of the FTI central region warned that losses to be incurred could be twice as much if flooding becomes prolonged.
