BANGKOK, 17 September 2013 Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach reaffirmed that at the moment, apart from eggs, none of commodity goods have unusually high prices.

The claim was made after his recent random price checks at some of the markets in Bangkok.

Mr. Yanyong boasted that his Ministry has a reliable price inspection system that has been in use for over 50 years. Its results have been used by the Bank of Thailand and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board in calculating fundamental economic figures such as consumer index and inflation.

As for the ongoing issue of high egg prices, he said the Commerce Ministry is trying to relieve public burden on the cost of living by offering blue flag program in which eggs are being sold at cheaper prices than those in the general market. The Commerce Ministry itself is also hosting the blue flag campaign in its compound in Nonthaburi every Tuesday and Friday.
