BANGKOK, 27 Dec 2013 – The value of Thailand’s border trade in 2013 has already hit its one trillion baht target.

Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT), Mr. Surasak Riangkrue made the announcement, attributing the success to his ministry’s determination to set a strong foothold for the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

The border trade this year has expanded 16% thanks to privileges provided by regional economic cooperation frameworks and the steps the DFT has taken to facilitate traders in their sales and contacts with potential customers ahead of the AEC single market to come in 2015.

Standing first in Thailand’s border trade partner lineup is Malaysia, followed by Myanmar and Cambodia.
