BANGKOK, 18 October 2011  – The Board of Investment has planned to postpone its BOI Fair 2011 due to the flood crisis

BOI Secretary-General Atchaka Sriboonruang said the November 10-25 fair may have to be put off by at least two months after which time the situation is expected to return to normal. The BOI will try to resume the event as soon as possible as installation of booths is 60-70 percent complete.

However, Ms. Atchaka said foreign investors affected by floods had no plan to move their production bases but they demanded that the government map out a long-term concrete water management.

She added that manufacturers in the flood-hit industrial estates in Ayutthaya also wanted the government to help move their machines for repair to ease the losses. These manufacturers have been forced to halt their production by three to six months. Many affected manufacturers have reportedly asked unaffected ones to recruit their employees.

The BOI has also asked the Federation of Thai Industries and the Labor Ministry to take care of the affected employees for the time being.
