2011 Thai export to expand at 15%

BANGKOK, 29 April 2011  – The Department of Export Promotion (DEP) expects exports in 2011 are likely to grow at 15% as a consequence of the global economic recovery and rising popularity for Thai products in the global market. 

According to DEP Deputy Director-General Vuthichai Duangratana, export prospects this year are still bright with an estimated growth of 12%. He even predicted a chance for higher rate of 15% as the global economy has been expanding continuously.

Thai exports in the first three months of this year (from January to March 2011) grew 28.3% worth totally 56.874 billion US dollars. The expansion resulted from higher demand for both agricultural and industrial products as well as free trade agreements signed with foreign countries.

Thai exports in 2010 rose by 28.14% year-on-year with a total value of 195.311 billion US dollars. The export value in the first two months of this year stood at 35.615 billion US dollars, increasing by 26.74%.
