CHONBURI, Thailand – Chonburi celebrated its 155th annual Buffalo Racing Festival from October 17 to 25, bringing nine days of local culture, traditional entertainment and racing excitement to one of the Eastern Seaboard’s most distinctive annual events. The festival reached its highlight on October 25, when buffaloes and their jockeys competed at the grounds in front of Chonburi Provincial Hall, drawing spectators eager to witness a tradition deeply rooted in the province’s agricultural heritage.
For generations, buffaloes have played an important role in Thai farming, helping cultivate rice fields and supporting rural livelihoods. The annual races honor that longstanding relationship while preserving a colorful local custom that has become part of Chonburi’s cultural identity. Beyond the racetrack, the nine-day celebration offered visitors local food, traditional sweets, refreshments, market stalls, live music and entertainment, creating a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Pattaya Office encouraged people to experience the festival, which stands out among Thailand’s traditional events for its close connection to the province’s farming history and community life.
Now in its 155th edition, the Buffalo Racing Festival remains an important showcase of Chonburi’s heritage, bringing together generations of residents while giving visitors a chance to experience a tradition unique to the province. The 2026 festival concluded on October 25, following nine days of celebrations centered on buffalo racing, local culture and the enduring bond between farmers and their animals.
