BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued its second warning for heavy to very heavy rain from October 18 to 25, cautioning residents about flash floods, forest runoff, landslides and strong wind gusts in affected areas.
The warning, issued on October 17, says southern and eastern Thailand will face persistent rain and isolated heavy to very heavy downpours from October 18 to 20. From October 21 to 25, rainfall is expected to increase across the lower Northeast, Central Thailand, Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the upper South.
Chonburi is among the eastern provinces named in the forecast. Heavy rain is expected on October 20, with very heavy rain forecast on October 21 and 22. Chonburi and Rayong are also listed for heavy rain on October 23 and 24.
The department warned that prolonged rainfall and accumulated runoff could cause sudden flooding, flash floods and landslides, particularly near foothills, waterways and low-lying areas. Residents are advised to avoid repeatedly flooded roads and prepare for possible short-term flooding.
Seas in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea could see waves exceeding three meters in thunderstorm areas. Boat operators should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thunderstorms.
Residents are urged to monitor official weather updates and plan travel carefully throughout the warning period. Updates are available at the Meteorological Department website, www.tmd.go.th, or by calling 1182 and 0-2399-4012–13 around the clock.
