PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City is reviewing public health projects and planning improvements to Naklua New Market, including designated areas for fresh seafood, street food, local products and community activities.
Wasant Sukkee, Pattaya City Council member and chairman of the Public Health Committee, chaired the committee’s third meeting of 2026 at Pattaya City Hall on October 8. Members reviewed project progress, implementation challenges and plans to improve public health services and residents’ quality of life.
The meeting examined projects completed during fiscal year 2026, including electronic bidding for Pattaya City Hospital procurement, the CPR On The Sea training program to improve emergency resuscitation skills and responses to water-related emergencies, and food sanitation inspections on Koh Larn to maintain safe standards for residents and tourists.
Members also reviewed plans for a 30-rai stray dog shelter in Huai Yai, aimed at improving the systematic management of stray dogs, protecting animal welfare and reducing potential problems for surrounding communities.
For the next fiscal year, the committee discussed work plans for disease control, environmental health and the Pattaya City Health Security Fund, including its Koh Larn branch. Improvements to market hygiene were another key topic, with particular attention given to Naklua New Market.
Preliminary plans cover approximately 2 rai, 1 ngan and 68 square wah. The proposed redevelopment would include an entrance feature and sculpture reflecting local identity, alongside designated trading and public activity areas.
The proposed layout includes 100 stalls for fresh seafood and ingredients, 200 stalls for street food and local cuisine with seating for diners, a check-in point and activity plaza, and 150 stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts and community products.
Supporting facilities would include public toilets, waste-sorting points, a wastewater treatment system and parking behind the market. The improvements are intended to support hygiene, environmental management and convenience for shoppers, vendors and visitors.
The market proposal remains at the planning stage. Relevant departments must study the site, prepare detailed designs and develop an implementation plan before submitting a proposed budget and proceeding through the required approval process.
