PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City is exploring plans to transform more than 70 rai of vacant public land in Naklua into a recreational area for local residents, with a focus on providing children and young people with space for outdoor activities and community programs.

Deputy Mayor Wuttisak Rermkijakarn chaired a meeting on October 9 at Pattaya City Hall to discuss potential uses for public land near the Old Chinese Cemetery community in Naklua. Pattaya City Council Vice Chairman Anupong Putthanawarat, council members and relevant department heads also attended.

The initiative follows a Ministry of Interior policy assigning the Department of Lands to manage public land that has been encroached upon, with the aim of addressing poverty and supporting rural development under the 2025 fiscal-year program. Banglamung District was tasked with coordinating with Pattaya City to identify eligible public land and assess suitable ways to manage it for the benefit of the community. A survey identified one qualifying site, covering approximately 70 rai, near Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 12 in the Old Chinese Cemetery community, Naklua.

City officials are considering how the undeveloped land could be organized and improved for public use. The site has been identified as an area that could benefit from better management, with plans aimed at creating a suitable setting for recreation and constructive activities for children, young people and other residents.

The land is still undergoing procedures with the Department of Lands to obtain a certificate confirming its status and boundaries as public land. Officials are also discussing the boundaries and intended uses of the site to ensure that any future development suits the needs of the surrounding community.

Pattaya City said the initiative is intended to make better use of public land, expand shared community spaces and provide a more suitable environment for younger residents. The project remains at the planning and administrative stage, with the final layout and uses to be determined through the relevant procedures.
