PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya enjoyed a welcome break from the heavy rain on Sunday, September 27, with calmer conditions returning to the city after several days of storms, flooding and strong winds. Clouds continued to gather over Jomtien Bay, but rainfall was considerably lighter, giving residents, visitors and beach businesses a chance to return to more normal activity after a difficult week of unsettled weather.
The improvement followed torrential rain that caused flooding on roads across Pattaya and East Pattaya, disrupting traffic and leaving motorcycles, cars and other vehicles struggling through flooded sections. Parts of the city also experienced power disruptions, while strong waves and rough seas affected coastal areas and forced some beach businesses to temporarily close or protect their equipment.
By Sunday, conditions along Jomtien Beach had become noticeably calmer. The sea remained under cloudy skies, but the lighter weather allowed people to return to the beachfront and gave businesses a chance to begin recovering from the disruption. The break in the rain was particularly welcome after repeated downpours had left homes, vehicles, clothing and other belongings wet and muddy. Residents and businesses have been facing the familiar task of cleaning, drying and repairing after flooding.
Weather conditions can change quickly during the rainy season, however, and further showers remain possible in Pattaya and surrounding areas. Residents are continuing to keep an eye on forecasts and local flooding conditions. With Monday approaching, there are hopes that the improved weather will continue and give Pattaya another useful day to recover — allowing residents to clean up flooded homes, dry out cars and clothes, and perhaps clear their minds after a difficult week of rain, flooding and disruption.
