BANGKOK, Thailand — Travellers heading into Bangkok are being advised to allow extra time and check road conditions carefully, as flooding continues to disrupt traffic on several major routes across the capital. The Internal Security Operations Command Bangkok (ISOC Bangkok) reported on September 27 that rainfall had generally eased compared with previous days, but continued showers and periods of heavy rain remained possible, particularly in eastern Bangkok. Additional rainfall could worsen flooding in areas where water is already standing.
Areas requiring close monitoring include Lat Krabang, Min Buri, Nong Chok and Khlong Sam Wa in eastern Bangkok, as well as Lak Si, Don Mueang, Bang Khen and Sai Mai. Flooding has also affected parts of Bang Kapi, Bueng Kum, Lat Phrao and Chatuchak.
Phetchaburi Road between Khlong Tan and Phetchaburi Road was among the most severely affected locations, with floodwater reaching around 40–50 centimetres between 10am and 1pm. Around 100 vehicles were reported stranded and had to be removed by tow trucks, causing major traffic disruption.
Other affected routes included Ramkhamhaeng Road in Bang Kapi, Phahonyothin Road in Bang Khen and Chatuchak, Nawamin Road in Bueng Kum, Chao Khun Thahan Road in Lat Krabang, Watcharapol Road in Bang Khen, Chaeng Watthana Road in Bang Khen and Lak Si, Srinakarin Road in Bang Kapi and Suan Luang, and Sena Nikhom 1 Road in Chatuchak and Lat Phrao. Flooding has been reported at depths ranging from around 5 to 20 centimetres on several of these routes, while some sections of Ramkhamhaeng Road have reached about 20 centimetres.
Authorities are pumping and draining water from roads and communities, while monitoring water levels in Bangkok’s main canals. Sandbags are being prepared for affected residents in Bang Khen, while Lak Si has established a temporary shelter with emergency supplies, food, drinking water and basic medical support. Traffic police and other agencies are working to manage traffic, divert vehicles and remove stranded cars, particularly around heavily flooded sections of Phetchaburi Road.
ISOC Bangkok said it has prepared personnel, water pumps, tow trucks, boats and support vehicles for areas facing more serious flooding. Teams are also assisting bedridden patients, elderly residents and other vulnerable people. Travellers arriving in or moving around Bangkok should check local traffic and flood conditions before setting out, particularly when travelling through eastern Bangkok, Lak Si and other low-lying areas. Conditions vary significantly between districts and can change quickly with further rainfall.
